When I was little, the highlight of my day was going to Costco with my mom and trying every single sample there; but there was something different about that particular Costco my mom took me to. There was just something very eerie about it. Oh that’s right, it was placed right next to a graveyard. When I asked my mom why there was a cemetery across from the store, she simply responded “Because honey, that’s where the store gets its meat from.” Needless to say I was scared off of hamburgers for most of my childhood, but today, that sense of humor that I didn’t get then, epitomizes my art.
I like to think my work regards life’s little eccentricities with a hint of dark humor. It renders its twisted taste with a palette of only black , white and a splash of sanguine red. In terms of subject matter, the goal of my art is to blur the line between grotesque and gorgeous and ultimately fuse lust with disgust. In short, it brings a light heartedness to things that are generally deemed wretched, unsightly or nightmarish.
Some of my artwork examines the underlying elegance in everyday oddities and often depicts the human figure in situations that resemble Dahmer’s typical dinner. However, the majority of my renderings focus on that obscenity known as being a woman. Blame my childhood love of turning my Barbies into replicas of Lily Munster, but a certain affinity for the unconventional female type often shows up in my craft. If you give me a Japanese Geisha, I’ll make her an American Gangster.
So, if you like the color scheme in “Schindler’s List,” Feminsim, and work that puts the “art” in the phrase “dearly depARTed”, then dig right in. Welcome to my nightmare and enjoy.
